More FiFi News
By pog | October 29, 2008
The scones there are now vegan. Oh my, they are good. Mind you, it was the first scone I had eaten in 11 years.
My DW just told me that the location used to be an animal shelter and that Madam FiFi (the cat) was adopted from there.
What a charming story eh.

You Know You Want To

Us vegans have a tough time finding tea rooms which cater for us. Imagine my delight when, whilst visiting a gorgeous tea room in an idyllic setting the owner of four moths, Christine, was receptive to the possibility of adding vegan fare to her menu.
Madam FiFi’s Tea Room and Gift Shop is a charming venue with a 1920’s theme. The atmosphere is very friendly and the background music is unobtrusive and pleasant. After one week sure enough, vegan items had been added. I must say, the snicker doodles were already vegan and delicious as was the freshly ground coffee. There is also a huge selection of freshly made loose tea to choose from.
The new vegan food, which includes homemade houmous (hummus if you are American), pitas and a homemade dressing were both fresh and very tasty indeed. Christine takes pride in her work and this is clearly demonstrated by the level of service and the excellence of the food. Vegan or not, you must visit. There is a beautiful pond just adjacent to the tea room which includes ducks and chickens which you are encouraged to feed with food via the nearby dispensers but at 25 cents for a palmful, you are advised to bring you own duck food. If you do, please bring proper duck food as bread has very little nutritional value and can cause ponds to suffer from excessive silting.
Whilst enjoying my food, I pondered why the Tea Room was named Madam FiFi’s making the assumption that it is named after a 1920’s celebrity. Nope, Christine named the tea room after her cat, Madam FiFi.
Madam FiFi’s is located at Bothell Country Village.

Vegan Weirdo
By pog | October 5, 2008
Yesterday, some people asked me why I am vegan. They asked me with the look.
I didn’t have time to explain yesterday so I told them that I would post something on my blog. So here it is; Why I Am Vegan.
After reading this, you decide. Am I weird or perhaps, just maybe, compassionate?

Apples and Hamsters
By pog | September 13, 2008
Just installed iTunes, version 8. How exciting I mused, a new feature. The Music Genius. Select a song from your library and iTunes pops-off to its store and makes recommendations, boasts iTunes.
Ooooh, must give this a try I thought, and selected Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven. One of the suggestions; The Hamster Dance Song by Hampton The Hamster.
Not familiar with our little furry friends work? Take a peek.

Recommendations will get better over time, say iTunes. I’m not so sure I want that. I have now discovered an entire new world of rodent funk hitherto unknown to me.

Bring It On
By pog | September 9, 2008
I am finally taking flying lessons. A friend of mine recently asked me if there was much theory study during the private pilots licence phase. Difficult to answer as "much" is of course, a relative term. I will let you decide.

At Last - Seattle
By pog | August 29, 2008
Finally made it to Seattle. Twenty-four excess bags, four carry-ons and one, very miffed cat. Chloe, the poor love, spent 20 hours in her transportation kennel and yet, she still wants to know us.
This is our luggage waiting (with me in the background) for Lisa to pick-up the hire van. It was 23:30 local time at this point. The carry-on bags I had with me, off picture. Poor old Chloe was still waiting for us to collect her from cargo. that happened at 23:50.
Still, here now and no (well few) complaints.
I have filled my intention to fly with the TSA, paid more $$$, had my fingerprints taken (again) and await their final decision. After that, I can begin my flight training at the airport which is a short drive from here. Those of you who have been following my blog will know that I have immigrated from the UK and now live with my US born wife, Lisa. One of my intentions is to train as a commercial pilot. Those of you who haven’t followed my blog well, that pretty much brings you up to date. Almost forgot, I passed my Class One airman’s medical a couple of days ago.
So, by the fact that I am now here you know;
- I do not have TB
- I do not carry HIV
- I do not have syphilis
- I do not have a criminal record
- I am male. The doctor at the medical centre I attended in order to get my visa asked me to drop my trousers in order to verify my gender (I knew wearing that skirt was a mistake). Mind you, she was very pretty so I didn’t mind at all. Usually, I end up being arrested for that.
From my recent medical, you know that my heart is OK (had to have an EKG).
So, I guess that all makes me a good catch. Now, if only I didn’t look like Mr Bean.
